The Committee on Provincial Reorganisation was set up fey
the Government pursuant to a decision of the Cabinet taken in
its meeting of 4th August 1961,* the relevant portions whereof
are reproduced below: —
‘‘Cabinet decided that the present divisional set-up in the
provinces is basically sound and should not be replaced with
the zonal system. But sufficient delegation of powers has not
taken place to, or is not being exercised by, the Commissioners
and other divisional officers. There is need even to delegate
the powers further to the Deputy Commissioners and other
district officers to remove inconvenience to the people to the
maximum extent possible. |
